Colorado T1 Services - Colorado T1 Lines

Colorado T1 Lines (also T3 and DS3)

A T1 line is a business class phone service line which typically uses common copper wire already in place, or where available, fiber optic cable. T carrier lines are dedicated service lines. The lines are not normally shared between multiple customers, which lends reliability and security to the service. T1 service is not limited to a given distance from a providers central office and is available anywhere there is telephone service. T1's are used to carry voice and/or data signals. Voice transmissions can include traditional telephone company voice services, or low cost VOIP calling plans. Data services include internet access, POS, VPN, web site hosting or Colocation hosting, telecommuting, teleconference, and almost any other data application. The customer premise hardware is simply a modem-like device.

T1 lines are available in serveral configurations making them fairly scalable, and affordable. It is not uncommon to find T carrier lines in use from the largest of enterprises, down to the home office. Common configurations include:

  • Voice T1: 24 channels on each line. With multi-line systems each T1 will support about 100 phones.
  • Data or Internet T1: Each line operates at 1.5M up stream and down stream. As dedicated lines, speed is not degraded by distance or the sharing of the line with neighbors (over subscription).
  • Integrated T1: Voice and data applications running on the same T1 system.
  • Voice T1 - PRI: The T1/PRI typically allots 23 channels to voice and one channel to data applications.
  • Multiple T1 Lines: Multiple lines, each operating independently.
  • Bonded T1 Lines: Multiple lines "bonded" and operating as single T1 with increased capacity.
  • Burstable T1: Bandwidth based on the users minimum requirements, yet allowing for periods of peak useage. Additional bandwidth for periods of heavier usage is billed "pay as you go".
  • Fractional T1 Line: T1 lines divided into fractions. Capabilities are decreased by the fraction, but due to fixed distances, costs are not decreased in proportion to the capacity.

Colorado T1 Services - Coverage Area

Unlike DSL, which is distance sensitive, T1 Lines are available anywhere there are regular telephone services. T1 services can be brought to the most remote rural locations. However, as these lines are dedicated to your T1 use, the longer the loop (distance from the CO to the end user), the higher the monthly cost. For users that connot afford the charges on very long T1 loops, we can also arrange business class satellite internet solutions.

Colorado T1 Services

Colorado T1 Services - Colorado T1 Line Benefits

Colorado T1 Line Benefits - Speed, Cost, and Reliability = Bottomline

    Speed

  • T1 bandwidth speeds start at 1.5 Mbps for full T1 service and run up to 500 Mbps for Ethernet Services. Traditionally, T carrier lines are dedicated services. The bandwidth is not shared, so you actually get the advertised bandwidth.

  • A Word of Caution!
In recent months, some T1 service resellers have been marketing products as T1 lines. The services are indeed carried on a T1 line, however, they are resold, shared services, just like DSL. This means that with the cheaper prices come compromised speed and security. With this type of service you are basically buying an over priced DSL connection.
    Cost

  • Voice Line Savings - The cost of a single voice line can vary widely, but usually average around $40 per month. Business with as few as 7 or 8 lines can save by switching to a T1.

  • Save on Long Distance Charges - Long distance charges vary from provider to provider. Normal rates are from 1.5¢ to 3¢ per minute, with some providers allowing users to buy down the long distance rate.

  • VoIP - T1 lines and VoIP plans work well together. Providers have began to put together their own VoIP services, resulting in even greater savings.

  • Colocation Hosting - T1 service enables businesses to host their web and other applications off site. This saves in equipment, and operator costs and reduces the number of lines and cables required on site.

  • Employee Efficeincy - Helps to put an end to employees just sitting and waiting for information at their terminal.
    Reliability

  • Reliability is the number one reason to switch to a T1 line. Let's face it, if you are going to spend $300 + per month for your voice and internet service, you are going to expect a lot from the provider. And, providers appreciate that fact. That is why they provide you with SLA's (Service Level Agreements). The SLA sets out what service levels you can expect. They cover areas such as minimum bandwidth, restoration times if there is a service interruption, and the like. They also set out compensation to the user if the SLA targets are not met. If those targets are not met, it costs the provider, and they are not any more amiable to lost revenue than you are. As a result, when there are service problems, dedicated lines go to the top of the list; they receive attention first, and are restored before any other problems are addressed.

  • Another Word of Caution!
With the advent of pseudo-T1's came pseudo-SLA's. It stands to reason, if you are not receiving what you believe to be a dedicated circuit, the SLA may not meet you expectations either. Consider the help of a telecommunications services broker.
